Microlearning that actually gets watched

Short, purposeful learning assets — 3 to 7 minutes — built for teams with limited time and a genuine need to retain what they learn.

Why most training does not stick

The problem with long eLearning courses is not that they are badly designed. It is that the human brain was not built to absorb 45 minutes of new information in a single sitting, especially when the learner is also managing a full workload, answering messages, and thinking about the rest of their day.

Completion rates for long-form eLearning across industries typically sit between 20 and 40 percent, according to research by the Brandon Hall Group. Microlearning consistently achieves completion rates above 80 percent, for a straightforward reason: a 4-minute module feels manageable. A 45-minute course does not.

Microlearning is not a shortcut. It is a format decision grounded in how memory works. German psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus demonstrated in the 1880s that without reinforcement, people forget approximately 50% of new information within an hour and up to 70% within 24 hours — the "forgetting curve." Short, focused assets delivered close to the moment of need produce better recall and behaviour change than long modules completed months before the knowledge is actually required.

At Geecom, we build microlearning for teams that need high completion rates and real retention — not checkbox compliance. Every module is built with a single, clear learning objective. One module, one goal, one takeaway. That constraint is a feature, not a limitation.

What we build

Microlearning is not a single format. Depending on your content and your learners, we might recommend video, animated explainer, scenario-based interaction, or a short knowledge check sequence. We choose the format that fits the content, not the other way around.

Most of our microlearning work falls into four categories:

  • Compliance refreshers — annual or quarterly reminders for content learners already know but need to demonstrate ongoing awareness of
  • Policy and procedure updates — concise walkthroughs of what changed and what it means for the learner's day-to-day work
  • Product and service knowledge — just-in-time updates for sales, service, or support teams ahead of a launch or change
  • Manager skills and leadership — short scenario-based modules on specific situations, delivered over time as a blended programme

We also build microlearning series: structured sequences of 6 to 12 short modules that cover a topic progressively, with spaced repetition built into the design. This approach works particularly well for compliance programmes, onboarding reinforcement, and culture-building content.

From brief to delivered module

Our microlearning process is fast and low-friction. Most single modules are delivered in two to four weeks.

1
Scoping call

We talk through the learning objective, the audience, and the moment of need. We confirm whether microlearning is the right format and recommend the best approach.

2
Script and storyboard

We write the script and map the visual treatment. You review and approve before any production begins. This is where we pin down the exact content and tone.

3
Production

We produce the module — animation, voiceover, interactions, or video — depending on the agreed format. One round of revisions is included as standard.

4
Packaging and delivery

We package to your LMS spec (SCORM, xAPI, or MP4) and test before delivery. You get files that work the first time, without back-and-forth over technical issues.

Deliverables included in every project

Scripted and produced module

A complete, produced learning asset with script, visuals, voiceover, and any interactive elements. Delivered on time, to brief, ready to publish.

LMS-ready package

SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, or xAPI packaging tested in your platform before delivery. Completion triggers and assessment scoring included if required.

Editable source files

You receive the source project files so you can update content yourself in future — or commission updates from us — without starting from scratch.

Mobile-tested output

Every module is reviewed on mobile before delivery. Learners increasingly access training on their phones — we make sure it works properly when they do.

Microlearning — frequently asked questions

How long is a microlearning module?
Our microlearning modules typically run between 3 and 7 minutes. Research consistently shows that learner attention and completion rates drop sharply after 10 minutes, so we keep assets short by design, not by accident. If your topic genuinely needs more depth, we will recommend a short series of modules rather than one long piece.
What is microlearning best used for?
Microlearning works best for content learners need to recall and apply quickly: compliance refreshers, policy reminders, product updates, safety procedures, and just-in-time knowledge. It works less well for complex procedural training that requires extended practice. We will tell you honestly at the scoping stage whether microlearning is the right format for your goal.
Can microlearning modules be packaged for an LMS?
Yes. We package modules as SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, or xAPI depending on what your platform requires. Each module includes a completion trigger and assessment if needed, so you can track completion and pass rates across your workforce.
How quickly can a microlearning module be delivered?
A single module can typically be delivered in two to four weeks from an approved brief. A series of four to eight modules takes six to ten weeks depending on the complexity of each asset and review cycles. We can often move faster for time-sensitive content, such as a regulatory update that needs to reach staff before a deadline.
Can you build a series of microlearning modules on the same topic?
Yes, and we recommend this approach for most compliance and onboarding content. A series of 6 to 10 short modules, released over time, produces better long-term retention than a single long module. We can design the series architecture and release schedule as part of the project.
